Jim O’Rourke – The Visitor

I’m extremely excited as I have just found out that Jim O’Rourke, one of my all-time musical heroes, has finally made a follow-up to his melody-driven records Bad Timing, Eureka, Halfway To A Threeway and Insignificance.  According to FACT magazine, Jim’s new record features just one long track, and is closest to Bad Timing in feel.  Here’s the LP’s fantastic sleeve art:

Jim O'Rourke - The Visitor

A couple of years ago I talked to O’Rourke collaborator Tim Barnes, and he told me that Jim had long since finished a beautiful 20-minute suite of music that was in the Eureka vein.  Since this new album was apparently all recorded more recently in Tokyo, I wonder if that piece will ever see the light of day?

Please buy The Visitor when it comes out on September 8 (U.S.) or August 31 (UK), and encourage Jim to make more pop music.

I leave you with this photo, taken by Kahimi Karie.  Note little friends on hand-towel.
